Let me introduce myself
My name is David Kaplan and I am from the middle of Europe, the Czech Republic. After high school, part of which I spent in the USA, I attended the Czech Technical University. I was studying Civil engineering, where, in my second year, I found my passion in coding. I started taking Computer Science classes. I have gained enough fundamental knowledge to get started. Most of my programming education comes from courses, books, and consulting with other developers.
I am a man of my word. When I say something, I mean it. I take work very seriously, and I am always honest and open about it. I deliver on time thanks to closely developed processes, automation, and personal productivity.
Sport plays an important role in my life. When I am not at my computer I am outside running, rock climbing, or ski touring. Most of the time I am also with my camera to capture the stories.
Starting freelancing
During my university studies, I was always thinking about what I would do after graduating. I felt like I am being trained to be a good employee. University gave me a set of skills that would make me a valuable engineer for any corporation. I do not remember the exact moment I decide to run my own business, but when I got my master’s diploma I did not get a job like all my classmates. I jump headfirst down the freelancing rabbit hole.
The beginnings were modest. I had no idea how many skills I needed to acquire to be a full-fledged freelancer. I was working on various small projects. Here I fixed some code, and there I developed some micro tools, or some clients needed a little e-commerce store change. Slowly I realized that being a very narrow specialist was not where my strengths lay. I discovered that I needed to build a set of skills to lead projects from the beginning to the end and that I do not have to be the one to do all the work.
Today I am mostly working with clients on custom web applications, websites, and e-commerce solutions. I am using my open communication and experience in project management to lead the project to its goals as smoothly as possible. I enjoy working on complex projects where my skills are tested, and the best solution is beyond my skill set.
In the near future, I will be expanding my skills into mobile application development with React Native and continue building my skills in custom applications and themes from Shopify.
I have found out that thing that brings me the most joy is the development process. I feel that with every finished work and happy client, I have helped someone to achieve their dreams and contribute to making the world a better place. That is the reason why my vision down the road is to build a carefully picked team of skilled people who will implement my skill set to take on more complex projects and make the world a better place through software.
